I recently purchased a 1973 Islander 30 MK II sailboat with a Palmer P60 engine. Changed the oil & filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, points & condenser, fuel-water separator and the generator belt. Engine starts up easily, idles smooth, shifts into forward, neutral, and reverse gears, and holds temperature at 140. Could use a carb cleaning; I have a rebuild kit that I may eventually get around to using. Used the engine a few times to motor around the bay, will be pulling it out to convert the boat to electric. Can sell either as a whole (preferably) or for parts. Located in Oakland, CA.

Hi Michael,

Your post may get more attention if you add some pictures of the engine, and the results of a compression test.

Hi David,
I am working with a client selling their 1971 Columbia MKII with a Palmer engine 60. The seller thought it was 60 HP but I did some research and realize it is 22HP which sounds more like it. Anyhow it isn't working and is said to be having exhaust issues. o we are looking for a mechanic locally that you might be able to reccomend. Thanks, T

Hello Teresa,

You can give me a call direct and let me know why it needs a mechanic, if it is running, and what marina it is berthed in.

Very few mechanics work on these engines.
