In my opinion some very clever fellow back about 1925 wanted a YT-1 and he basically made up his own patterns and assembled a pretty remarkable knock off. I would like very much to see the con rod webb to see if it is a Palmer product. The camshaft gearing as they are spiral gears and copying them with their built in cams would be a pretty difficult job without a pretty good machine shop and a lot of knowledge. Bravo for who ever did it. Hope the current owner cleans it up and we see it running one of these days. I cannot place the reverse gear as having any Palmer background. May be but I have nothing which remotely looks like this one.

The gear system looks to be the same as the 6hp Clae Engine. No reverse. Tapered dog on shift lever engages forward gear only. ?

hello to all
thanks Ernie for putting photo's up. this engine was recently collected at a swapmeet in Cairns Queensland Australia by a friend if mine. when i saw it, i was certain it was a Palmer yt1, but having consulted the palmer men, it turns out to be a close copie.was hoping some aussie members or anyone has seen anything like it. engine is quite complete missing carbie, maggie and exaust. can anyone confirm Paul's thinking on the dog clutch might clae? that flang below the thrust bearing looks to be made for that clutch's activating rod. you would think that with the amount of work thats gone into the pattern making, we would have seen more surviving today. Dick i'll try and get a look under that sump plate in a few days
Steve.
