This engine has been in the family for over 50 years. I can't find a nameplate on it and would like to know what it is. It appears to be a Midland, but the split lower casting doesn't look correct. Can anyone help identify this engine?

LOOKS LIKE A HESS OR A GIEHOLT. SEARCH BOTH AND LOOK AT THE PICTURES.

Taking Jamie's suggestion and looking closely
at these engines the Gierholtt has the split crank case where as the later Bantam does not.
Hess Motor Company bought Gierholtt and continued to make these 2 cycle engines, The Hess engines were 4 cycle !
