Russell,

It is probably 85ETLR77S not 85ETLB775

That is a 1977. See this link for manuals.

Parts can be found here.

You can ask questions on the board at MarineEngine.com in the Johnson/Evinrude category.

I just purchased an Evinrude Jr outboard model # EJRCDR and serial # B018092 and would like to know more about it. What year was this motor made and what is the horsepower? I think it was made in 1986 but when I check that model year I cannot find this motor.

Does anyone have an instruction manual for a Evinrude EJRCDR Junior, 1986 1.2 hp? Specifically, I want to find out the best way of tweaking the air and fuel mixture dials and the throttle lever. You can send me a message at galpin@sympatico.ca and a scanned copy of the manual would also be great.

I can get it to run just above idle, but when I open the throttle more it just stalls. Any suggestions?

Try this web site. It has manuals for lots of engines: Put Evinrude in the product box and go from there. 1986 1.2hp etc. Carburetor Crankshaft&Piston etc.etc.With each of the systems are the part number plus a diagram of the system. http://epc.brp.com/login.aspx?Return...ands=ej&lang=E

I have a 1977 Johnson (Javlin) motor model # 85ETLR77S on my Thompson boat. The problem I have is that sometimes it starts and runs great. Then there are times that it rolls over, but will not fire up it is hit or miss if it'll start. I have a new battery on it. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

It should be new enough to have good ignition coils. However it is worth a look. Remove the tin cover in the middle of the flywheel and make sure the coils are not cracked. If they are it will be very obvious and they need to be replaced. If you need replacement coils they are available from www.marineengine.com
Hope this helps

I think this Javelin is a V4, if so it probably has 4 coils, I would look at the stator or module. The stator can be checked for a/c voltage, I don't know the values, but they were a problem area.

I'd like to say thankyou to all that replied so quickly to my post. It sounds like my problem will be relatively easy to check and fix. I will check those items soon. It sounds like I'll be boating in no time at all.

I just purchased an Evinrude Junior on Ebay - Belgium #B0106869 - JRCDR. Have not received it yet but it was advertised to "run great" and will be used with a fiberglas rowing boat. What should I know about this motor - year of mfg? reputation for reliability, maintenace schedule, etc? Many thanks.

I have a 1977 Johnson outboard motor model # 85ETLR77S on my Thompson boat. The problem I have is that when I put the boat in reverse, it's like it dosen't catch. Eventually it does go into gear, but not after it makes a noise like something is missing. I have no issues with the forward gear. I've been told that my linkage needs to be adjusted. Two years ago I had new throttle cables installed. How hard is it to properly adjust the linkage if this is the problem. This problem just started.

I replaced my inpeller on my 73 25 hp evinrude. Put it all back together, and no forward. only reverse and neutral. I messed with the linkage through the access on the side of the motor, but nothing what should I do next??
