Lee, Check the nameplate on your motor and then go to the following page on the MarineEngine.com site: Evinrude This web site, OldMarineEngine.com is for pre-1940 style inboard engines. |

That is a 2HP Rope start Evinrude 1985, the "CO" is 1985 model year. If you need a manual for it I suggest the Seloc Manual. The factory service manual for 1985 covers all the models that year, and would be overkill if all you need is info on a 2HP motor. |

Chip, Your model number is 4266. The serial number is 11061. That is a 1.1HP Evinrude from 1938-41. We can supply some manuals for at the MarineEngine.com site, and you might be interested in Peter Hunn's OLD OUTBOARD BOOK |

Joey, Model number E35RCSM is a 35HP Evinrude Rope Start, 1980 model year. I don't know about adding electric start or "rideguide steering". I suggest that you post those questions in the outboard category of the discussion board at MarineEngine.com, it is a companion site of this one but is focused on more "current" engines. The OldMarineEngine.com site is focused on "early style" marine inboard engines. |

Gforce421: Are you sure about the numbers you posted? The "30475" is close but not quite right. You can see what the pre-1980 evinrude numbers for a 40HP should be at this link. ********* dhwright: You might be better off asking that question in the Johnson/Evinrude cateogry of the board at MarineEngine.com. This site, OldMarineEngine.com, is focused on old "inboards", not outboards. I'm sure that anyone here that could help you would be happy to, but outboards are not the field of expertise for most of the regulars here. The board on MarineEngine.com is a similar format to this one, so you should have no trouble posting. But you should post your question as a "new discussion" instead of adding it onto an existing thread of messages as you did here. You will see a "start new discussion" link in the blue bar at the top and bottom of the categories. |

Hi. I have 2 Evinrude engines one is a 4Hp and the other is a 6Hp. Both are twin cylinders. The 4Hp has no tag on the transom mount. How would I obtain the model and serial number? the 6Hp has the model and serial as follows: Model 69866e (the third digit could be a B instead of an 8) Serial B037953. please can you tell me the year of the 6Hp so that I can hopefully get a manual to cover both of them. Thanks very much. |

Are you sure about the model number 69866E ? That doesn't match up (nor if it was B instead of 8). See this link. Some of the older Evinrudes have the model number stamped into a freeze plug or into the flywheel. |

I'm sure that it is correct as I made a special note to be accurate but I was running late for work so I will recheck. I thought it strange as I looked at all the links to engine codes and they did'nt make sense to me either. I may have missed some letters if they were standard for the tag and not stamped into it like the rest. I will return tomorrow after i recheck. Thanks for responding. |

Kevin: 10524C is a 9.9HP from 1975 Frank: Those numbers aren't going to help. You could try posting a picture of it on the board at MarineEngine.com. Richard: That serial number doesn't look right. It should be similar (or at least the beginning of it) to the ones here. Darrell: That is a 25HP 1976. Steve: Is that a 5HP ? If so it's a 1935. If it is 4HP then it's 1971. See parts and manuals here. |

It's a 1964 9.5 hp short shaft. If you try to turn the flywheel with your hand on the outer diameter it should be hard to turn through top dead center. Both cylinders should feel the same. Just about all parts are still available through your local Evinrude or Johnson Dealer. I just reconditioned 3 of them and had no trouble getting parts from my local dealer. If you are anywhere near Southeastern Mass I may be able to help you. Hope this helps Ernie |

thats a 1952 3hp model. That model was the first of the 3hp's and later on became the 4hp. That design has been used by Evinrude/Johnson ever since with very few internal changes. One of if not "the" best small motors ever produced, by any manufacturer. |

RWHIT46684, It is probably MQ-14E not MO-14E. That would be 9.5HP from 1968. See this link for manuals. Jeepnut666, E25RCOS is a 1985 25HP Rope Start. You can look at the parts diagrams from the link here. |

tfran605: 6504R is a 6HP 1975. Brian: I don't think JBF4P is a valid model number. Mike: 4351 is a 1.8HP from 1940-41. You could post it for sale in our classifieds. Kevin: Manuals for that 1941 3.3HP are available. Jeff: 1509490 is a 150HP 1979. |

Hi. We just bought a 1970 boat with an Evinrude 25 hp motor. The serial or model number is 25102S or 251025, there is another number: E06126. We don't know if the motor is the first one for that boat or many of several, but one site I looked at indicated the motor to be a 1971. Can you verify this so we can find the right parts list? Thanks so much. |

Bill, The serial number won't identify it. The model number should be on the same nameplate where you found the serial number. You haven't said "approximately" what year it is, but see pre-1980 model numbers here. |

I am considering purchasing a 1993 Evenrude 70hp that is in excellent condition along with a Striper 18' 1993 boat, trailer, etc. The owner says the motor runs out to 5500 rpm and gives the boat about 25mph top speed. Does anyone know if a slightly larger or pitched prop - dropping the rpm to say 5000rpm would increase the speed of the boat? Thanks, Bob |

With that combination of HP, boat length, and top speed, you're doing about right - best way to increase speed is make the boat lighter. A change of 100lbs can make a big difference. The placement of weight in the boat also affects top speed. The flatter the angle to the water, the less wetted area and the faster it will go. But I doubt that you'll see anything major - not more than 3%-5% improvement - plus you'll be guzzling fuel at top speed miro |

Is the 70hp Evenrude enough motor for the 18' Striper boat? I don't mind 25mph as we're not interested in going faster unless we can do so with the existing engine. Also would a larger engine with higher top end be more costly gas wise than the 70hp if we got it up on plane and cruised at 20mph? Just checking before I buy. Thanks, Bob |

E10RCID is a 1981 rope start. This board is for antique style inboard engines. You should ask questions about that Evinrude outboard on the MarineEngine.com board in the Johnson/Evinrude category. Thanks. |
