Looking to get more information on a Roberts Inboard motor(1905?) It has a Kingston carburetor, 1 cyl., 3hp,. Would like technical or operational info. Did it use a crank? Do you mix gas with oil? It looks like to logo on the Old Marine Engine website.

Trying to narrow down the manufacturing date of OldBoatDaves engine in above posts is difficult
with the limited info that I have in my files !

Here are some basics

E.W Roberts claimed to have designed some 150 engines before starting his own "Roberts Motor Company" in 1906 in Clyde Ohio.

This is the only Clyde Ohio Tag That I am aware of, the engine is in the Mystic Seaports collection. A rectangular tag that I can't read very well but I don' think there is a serial number on it ?

1

By 1908 the Roberts Motor Company was moved to Sandusky, Ohio.
Ships Wheel with Launch was logo on 1908-09 Catalog,I believe oval engine tags with same logo started in 1908 - oldest Tag like this I have is # 5714

2

OldBoatDaves tag # 8086

3

Highest serial number I have is on an engine in my collection tag # 10268, this tag has a date 1918 stamped on it and from close look it appears the same stamping tools as the serial number !

4

So from 1908 to 1918 tag numbers are up to 10,268
Not knowing what the staring number was its difficult to interpolate ?

1908-09 calaog List The model O engines as 2 1/2 -3 Hp and have the old style water pump ?

5

By 1911 the catalog lists the model O as a 3 Hp
and has the later style water/pump with timer bracket assembly as the engine in question ?

6

Any photos or tag serial numbers would be appreciated to help narrow down these dates !
